SMOKIES MAKE TWO TRADES

The Trail Smoke Eaters dealt goaltender Paul Barclay to Surrey for forward Darnell Dyck.  The Smokies also picked up goaltender Devon Murtagh from Westside for future considerations.  Murtagh is a former Nelson Leaf.

Castlegar's Evan Bloodoff was selected by Phoenix in the 6th round of the NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.  Trail native and son of former NHL star Ray Ferraro, Landon Ferraro went to Detroit in the 2nd round, 32nd overall.

In American Legion Baseball, the Trail Jays beat Cranbrook 17-3 and 7-3 on Sunday after beating them twice in Trail on Wednesday.  The Jays have won 7 of their last 8 games.

WANDERERS UPSET COLONIALS

The Boundary Wanderers and Rocky Mountain Rogues will play for the first Kootenay Rugby Union championship.  The Wanderers beat Trail 20-16 in a close match on Saturday.  The other semi-final saw the Rogues win over Nelson via forfeit.

JAYS FINISH SECOND AT TOURNAMENT

The Trail Jays lost 10-6 to Boise to finish second at the Belgrade Boys of Summer Invitational baseball tournament this weekend.  Trail beat Coeur D'Alene 6-1 in the semi-final.  It was their second straight second place finish at this tournament.

DIAMONDBACKS GET BATS GOING

In Under 16 American Legion Baseball, the West Kootenay Diamondbacks split two games on the road against the Mead Panthers Sunday.  They lost 6-4 and won 6-5.  The Diamondbacks also scored a combined 29 runs in two home wins over Central Valley on Friday.
