ABOUT DARREN MCPEAKE:
I grew up in Orillia, Ontario...we learned to ski at an early age, I was into hockey and later discovered music. I listened to Q107 out of Toronto as much as possible.
Great to be back in British Columbia, we are loving life in the Kootenays! I used to work at 100.3 The Q in Victoria. In 1999 I moved to Southern California and got a job in Ventura with B95.1. I worked there as Music Director/APD and on air in almost every daypart.
After 6 years in Ventura I made the leap to San Francisco as music director at Star 101.3. I began as Music Director and weekend afternoon host, then about a year into it, afternoons became available and I got the position as well as being MD.
I love bands like Van Halen, Pearl Jam, the Beatles and the Stones just to name 4. I love the Daily Show, the Simpsons and in the past I was always into the Sopranos and the Wire. I still love hockey and skiing. While I was in Whistler for the 2008/09 season I became a certified ski instructor. I met my wife Moira around that time, she is from Scotland and we're really looking forward to the local skiing this season.
ABOUT JOHN HELM:
I was born and raised in Camrose, Alberta – a little place I like to call The Slammer. Nobody calls it that. I got into broadcasting because it often doesn't feel like work, that and let's face it, I've got a big mouth. I'm a pretty simple guy – I love sports (go Jays, Oilers, Tbay Bucs, GSP), I like to laugh, I'm easy going and positive. My radio training came at Columbia Academy in Vancouver, an amazing city, and then I went on to Invermere/Windermere to do broadcasting for the Columbia Valley Rockies of the KIJHL. Living in the Kootenays was wonderful, so I took an "early retirement" job at a local golf course. At the end of that summer in 2009, I met my now fiancee Jessica. We spent another summer in Windermere and then I landed my first radio gig in 100 Mile House. We won't forget our time in the Cariboo, but it's always been our goal and dream to find our way back to the Kootenays. Now we're here and surrounded by great people in one of the most beautiful places in the world! Everything's coming up Milhouse! I reckon it's a fair spot to admit I'm a total Simpsons geek. I shamelessly try to blame my “not-so-manly” TV watching on my better half...I enjoy good conversation, good food and good (BC) beer. I like to play board games and I'm not above digging out the ol' Nintendo 64 for a little Mario Kart throw down. As far as music, some of my favorite bands are Pearl Jam, Tool, Led Zeppelin and Modest Mouse. I also greatly value family...and moustaches.
I look forward to bringing you the news and entertaining you in the morning. Happy listening!
