Luke Warm Response To Seniors Action Plan

A small step in the right direction but far from thrilled ...that's the word from a local seniors advocate regarding a new government announcement.

Joan Reichardt in Nelson is reacting to the Minister of Health's announcement of a Seniors Action Plan that includes a dedicated advocate to handle senior complaints and a new toll-free phone line that will provide information.

And it includes $15 million for the United Way to expand non-medical home support service across 65 communities.

Reichardt suggests that will barely make a dent and notes when she ran home support in Nelson 20 years ago her local budget was $1 million.

As for the seniors advocate position Reichardt says it remains to be seen if that person will truly have the power to get things done and hold government and the private sector to account.
