The Ministry of Transportation has found a solution to one of the more dangerous intersections in Castlegar.

 

Emergency Services and RCMP have highlighted the turn off from Columbia Ave to Minto Rd because of all the crashes that have happened there over the years.  The City's CAO John Malcolm says Ministry of Highways has been looking at it for two years and have designed an answer.

 

That is, creating a protected T intersection where Minto Rd joins the highway.  He says that will require raised concrete medians and channel slots for drivers in both directions.  Access on to Minto Rd would come from the south end of Blueberry Rd, preventing drivers from turning across oncoming traffic. 

 

Some private property has to be purchased and that process is just getting underway.
