Nelson and Sandpoint, Idaho have agreed to form a sister city relationship.

 

But it won't take effect until March when the city's current agreement with Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec expires. 

 

City councillor Donna MacDonald says there's a reason some twinnings are more successful than others.

 

She says the city relies on community organizations to foster these relationships and keep them thriving. In this case it's the Chamber of Commerce stepping up to fill the role.

 

The Baie-Saint-Paul relationship didn't have a specific advocate.

 

Discussions on the Sandpoint twinning began last October.
