Fortis BC's proposed West Kootenay Operations Centre would be built where Ootischenia School once stood.

 

The City of Castlegar is willing to sell them the property for market value.  Company Spokesman Michael Allison says they would consolidate existing Castlegar and South Slocan operations there.  He says they've been looking at such a move for 2 years because the older facilities are nearing the end of their life.

 

Allison says the 16 million dollar plan needs BC Utilities Commission approval.  A public meeting is planned for August 29th at the Ootischenia Hall.
