The deadline for a strike by unionized workers at Heritage Credit Union and HG Insurance has been postponed.

 

It had been set at 830am on Wednesday for the employees in Castlegar and Slocan Park.

 

The United Steelworkers local membership will now vote on the latest offer Monday night.  Lead Negotiator Jeff Bromley says the offer attempts to address the major sticking point of pensions and adds that the Committee was unable to make a recommendation either way.

 

If the membership approves the offer it will mean a new 3-year deal.  If not, Bromley says picket signs will be up on Tuesday Morning.

 

The company has said it will operate the Castlegar Branch with non-unionized staff if there's a strike, but the Slocan Park location would close.
