Celgar Salt Particulate Not Harmful
There are no health concerns related to the release of salt particulate into the air over Celgar Monday.
A cloud of the fine white stuff that some Robson residents likened to "snow" fell in the early afternoon.
Company Spokesperson Fiona Mackay says it came from the process of water washing the so-called "salt cake" off the inside of their big recovery boiler.
She says while nobody likes to have a dusting of material on their driveway, it is not harmful.
Mackay says the sustance is sodium sulphate with possibly some sodium carbonate. The company will investigate their processes but it seems there was too much draft going through the boiler during the wash.
