Trail now has a better idea of why a $400,000 Community Recreation grant for its proposed skatepark was not approved by the province.

 

Mayor Dieter Bogs was part of a group that conducted a conference call with the Ministry of Community, Sport and Rural Development. He says ministry staff told him Trail's grant application did not suggest how the city would have encouraged use of the facility through programs and activities, and there were also concerns about using environmentally-friendly material for the construction.

 

He says the city will continue to attempt to access provincial funding. Their failed application also spurred on the creation of a new government relations committee meant to improve ties with the province and Feds.
