High Risk Offender Arrested in Trail

The Trail and Castlegar Crime Reduction Units have arrested a prolific offender.

Corporal Darryl Orr says 26 year old Joel Hutchinson had been wanted for about a year on a Canada wide parole warrant.  Orr says police found Hutchinson hiding at a residence in West Trail just before midnight Thursday, where he was arrested without incident.  He evaded police a day earlier and went to great lengths to avoid authorities for some time.

Hutchinson was also found in possession of cocaine.  He appeared in Rossland court on Friday and pleaded guilty to Possession and Escaping Lawful Custody receiving 4 months in jail in addition to his parole violation.  He will likely be transferred to a Federal Correction Centre to serve the remainder of his sentence.

Orr says police are very happy to have made the arrest as Hutchinson was considered violent and a high risk to the local communities.
